LATEST UPDATE 06/01/2021
We are happy to announce all 5th grade events have been approved and are in the final stages of planning. Next week a 5th grade promotion packet will be sent home with on-campus students and VLA will get the packet via email. Please look over it carefully and return them to school or print, sign, and email it back on or before the date listed on each flyer. You will also get an email for a sign up to help volunteer in the areas needed to help make the events successful. If you give us your time, we will have the 2nd and 3rd rows of Promotion seating reserved for our volunteers. Please sign up if you can help.
MASKS are required at all events. Poway Unified sent out an email last week and information went out in our Sunday Seagull update with information on this matter. If anything changes you will be notified.

5th grade Outdoor Dance Party
5:00pm - 8pm
Interactive dance party led by Xtreme Fun, Dinner, Yearbook signing, and Dessert .
Ask: $20 per student
5:00pm-5:30pm- Drop off and dinner
5:30pm-7:30- Interactive dance party with DJ
7:30pm-8:00pm- Dessert, yearbook signing (Bring your yearbook. We will have a little booklet for those that don't have a yearbook), and pick up.
This is a 5th grade only event

5th Grade Promotion Day
Thursday, June 17, 9:15-10:15 am: 5th Grade Breakfast followed by Processional Campus Walk
❖ Students will gather in the new Reading Garden. They will enjoy donuts and juice provided by
PTA. This event is for students and teachers only.
❖ At 10:00 a.m, 5th graders will walk the interior hallways of campus while their fellow Seagulls
come out to cheer them on and congratulate them on their big day!
Thursday, June 17, 10:15 - 11:00 am: 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony!
❖ The ceremony will be held outdoors on the kindergarten playground.
❖ Families will enter campus through the ESS gate at the side of the MPR.
❖ There will be a limit of 4 guests per family. Please note that siblings count as part of the 4
guests. Each student will receive a packet of 4 tickets which they will bring home the week of
June 14. Please, no sharing tickets. We are happy to be able to provide an in-person ceremony,
however, we must adhere to social distancing guidelines. Chairs will be spaced accordingly.
Masks must be worn while on campus at all times.
❖ At the end of the ceremony, students will be led by their teachers to the playground. Parents
wishing to check their student out at this time should proceed to their cars and follow the regular
drive-through pick up process. This early dismissal is optional. If you are planning to take your
child home at the conclusion of the promotion ceremony, please complete the form at this link.
❖ Students who are not checked out at the conclusion of the ceremony will remain with their
teacher until the end of the regular school day at 12:50 pm.
❖ CEREMONY DRESS: Hawaiian theme! Students are expected to dress appropriately for a
special occasion. Hawaiian attire, such as floral print shirts or dresses, is strongly encouraged!
School appropriate shoes should be worn. No flip-flops or heels, please.

Roller Party and Last Day of School
9am - 11am
❖ To celebrate their very last day at Sunset Hills, and in keeping with this year’s 5th grade theme, “Just Roll With It”, 5th graders will enjoy a Roller Party on the blacktop. Students may bring bikes, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, or roller blades to school. We will have ramps and coned obstacle courses. Helmets are required.
❖ Following the Roller Party, students will enjoy a pizza lunch provided by PTA.
❖ School will dismiss at 12:50 pm.
HELMETS must BE WORN - RIDE MUST BE TAGGED WITH NAME - WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED BY GROWN UP to PARTICIPATE

5th grade T- shirts are here! They will be handed out on Friday 3/12 to our on-campus cohorts.
VLA- your shirts are in your class bin outside of the school. You can pick them up any time after noon on Thursday 3/11/2021. You are invited to come on campus between 3:00 -3:30 pm on Friday to get your picture taken on campus. If you can't make it, please pick up your shirt and upload a picture of your child in their t-shirt by Wednesday 3/17/2021.
Sunset Hills 5th Grade Socially Distanced small group pictures will be on Friday, March 12th, 2021. All 5th graders will be wearing a class of 2021 shirt and a mask. The shirts will be handed out right before the picture is taken. Please make sure your child wears blue jeans on Friday, March 12th.
5th graders will have another opportunity to wear their shirts to an outdoor activity we are planning for the last day of school. Once the details are worked out you will get more information.
VLA families if you have pictures that you would like to share in the yearbook or end of the year video please send them to Anette Feldman at anette502@hotmail.com by March 12th.

Donation Requested: For the 5th grade yard signs, t-shirts for the panoramic photo, 5th grade promotion, and the 5th grade gift to school, we are asking for a $40 donation to cover the cost of these. **If for any reason you are unable to pay, please email Anette. We have grants to make sure every 5th grader is included.
